April Fiber Guild Meeting
Lolly will be talking about KAWS, along with Deb Youngdahl and Leslie
McLaughlin. We will talk Lolly and Debbie and Leslie will be talking
about the classes they took at KAWS and give a report about some things
KAWS will do this year and next. There were some interesting people at
KAWS including Michelle Whiplinger who is a master silk dyer and the
teacher I believe who taught Deb Bliss. She was the keynote speaker.
The regular meeting is scheduled to be Wednesday, 4/9/2008 at 7:00 pm at the
Indian Mission. As always bring your show and tell items, it is always fun
to see what people are working on!
Knitting
Guild Info
Some people in the Fiber Guild
have expressed an interest in knowing when the knitting guild events are
scheduled. The info below is their next big event.
The Sunflower Knitters Guild will be having their
“Knitting in the Heartland” event the first weekend in April on Saturday
and Sunday, April 5th & 6th at the Radisson Hotel
located at 95th Street and I-35. Vendors who are interested in
a table can contact Teri Steinhaeufel at
tplemel@yahoo.com.
The cost is $50 per table.
Thanks!
DYE
WORKSHOP : Betsy Blumenthal and Kathryn Kreider, authors
of "Hands on
Dying" are coming for a two day workshop on the weekend of May 24th and
25th
at
Loose Park. The workshop is entitled "Dye Tricks with Fiber
Reactive
Dyes" and will cover two-color dyeing and value gradations, over dyeing,
dip
dyeing and painting with dye, and simple resist techniques. It should be
a
sell out. It will be open to both guilds. Price to be determined later,
since the guilds are sponsoring some of the cost, it should be reasonable.
Reserve your place by emailing Wendy Borders:
wendy054@yahoo.com I hope
to have more information at our April meeting.

month, or visit the Knitting in the Heartland event, be sure to grab a

For
Sale or Wanted
Nothing
submitted this month but this is free and if you want to sell something or are
looking to buy something fiber related, this is the spot! Just send via email
to me!!!
From the editor...
Crocuses and Daphodils are showing that spring
is just around the corner even though it still feels pretty cold for April.
the best part of this time of the year for me though means that many fiber
festivals are just around the corner. Last year I attended the Taos Wool
Festival in
New Mexico and it was well worth the trip but it also showed me that
we have a great festival right in our backyard offering something for every
fiber artist. If you want to save on gas then carpool but do try to attend
the
Missouri Wool and Sheep Festival in Sedalia at the end of May. It has
changed in the past few years and gotten much bigger and everything is in
the swine barn which has open sides but is totally shaded and covered. The
new layout that began last year offers a long row of classes so you can see
what is offered, then next to that is a long row of vendors and arenas where
competitions for the animals are held and then there are all of the
wonderful sheep and goats that are there, some even get their summer
haircuts at the show! Sometimes you will see pens with humans sleeping next
to their prized sheep and goats! This is a wonderful place to bring the kids
to. There are kids classes as well as adult classes on knitting, spinning
animal husbandry. And, don't forget to bring that favorite fiber item that
you have just spun up or knitted, woven or felted and enter it in the fiber
arts competition. The people are friendly and you don't have to pay to get
in. I stress this in this newsletter because I think it is a wonderful
festival and because attendance was very poor last year. We are hoping that
this year will be better! Tell your friends and we will see you there!
Everyone have a
great April and don't forget to get your taxes filed because when you do and
if you qualify for the tax rebates, filing triggers your rebate check which I
have heard that most are $600. Think of all the fiber your can buy with
$600!!!
