August Fiber Guild News

Meeting Wednesday August 8th, 2007

Regular place and time
Shawnee Indian Mission at 7pm

August Program

Program is Swedish Weaving.  This is a great small carry around project.  It can be done a T-shirt or a small piece of your favorite fabric to be used as an insert on a quilt, garment or even make a pocket from it.  Each person will need to bring a sharp needle, tapestry or blunt needle and your coordinating fabric or shirt and threads you want to weave with, also an embroidery hoop.  I will supply the handout with directions and a plastic canvas that is used for marking your weaving area.  A friend of mine in Louisiana had done this on one of her T-shirts and it was really pretty.

thanks, Peggy Bass

From the Editor....

I just read the magazine
Vogue Knitting the green issue. It is full of all kinds of projects and ideas to remind people that they can go green in many different ways and help to do your part to save the planet. My son is an environmental educator and he goes around the country teaching kids about how to recylcle and not waste and his biggest point is that there is only one animal that wastes ANYTHING and guess who that is..... Yep it is Man and yes you ladies too. so take a peek at that issue and maybe pick one thing at a time that you can do to help... maybe recycle all of those plastic water bottles, saves on oil too. Another thing is to not throw away your shoes, the bottoms can be recylcled and used to make playgrounds! Organic cotton is more readily available now too, maybe try some of that or soy silk or bamboo!

I found that issue very interesting!

Hope all is well with everyone. The retreat was a great success as usuall. It was hot and buggy outside but we were cool and bug free inside! We ate well as usuall and I saw a lot of people actually finishing things so I think it was a very productive weekend. If you missed it and are unsure maybe next time you can just wander out for the day and see what it is all about!

Have a great month and remember think green!
