A New Spin on Traditional Arts Creative Hand Show/Sale Features One-of-a-kind Fiber Wearables Art and fashion lovers can purchase a highly individual array of work by area fiber artists at the 25th annual Creative Hand show and sale, Nov. 16 and 17 at the Sylvester Powell, Jr. Community Center in Mission, Kansas. This is not your ordinary craft sale! Sponsored by the Weaver’s Guild and Fiber Guild of Greater Kansas City, the sale showcases artists who construct one-of-a kind wearable and decorative fiber artworks. This year marks the guilds’ 25-year anniversary of promoting fiber arts. While guild members practice traditional arts such as spinning, weaving, knitting, and crochet, these take on a whole new dimension in the sale's offerings of hand-dyed fibers, spun yarns, hand-woven clothing and decorative items. The sale will also include an array of non-fiber art items including pottery, art cards, soaps, jewelry and other gift items. Artists will be on hand to demonstrate techniques and share information about their work. The sale runs from 4 pm to 9 pm on Fri., Nov. 16 with a fashion show at 7 pm and 10 am to 5 pm on Sat., Nov. 17. The Sylvester Powell, Jr. Community Center is located at 6200 Martway in Mission, Kansas. A portion of the proceeds from this year’s sale will go to benefit artists in need nationally through CERF, the Craft Emergency Relief Fund at www.craftemergency.org , and to providing wool-producing animals for families in need through Heifer International at www.heifer.org . http://kansascityfiberguild.org http://www.kcweaversguild.org/
