any time to become a member of the Fiber Guild. You can
download an application for the Fiber Guild at:
You can also become a member of our “sister guild”, the Weaver’s Guild.

many things in common, including our lending Library. Their website is
www.kcweaversguild.org. You can also join by filling in the appropriate
information on the application on the Fiber Guild website.
April Guild Calendar:
April Monthly Fiber Guild Meeting…April 14
Due to our increase in membership, we have found we need a larger meeting
space. Old Mission United Methodist Church has agreed to host our
meetings for the rest of 2010. We met there in March and the space was
fantastic!
The address is 5519 State Park Rd , Fairway , KS 66205 .
The church parking lot is accessible from State Park Road which is 1/2 block
east of Mission Road on the south side of Shawnee Mission Parkway .
The north door of the church has parking space and is
closest to our meeting room. Parking overflow can go to
the lot on the west side of the church and can use the west door with a
portico. Direction signs will be posted within the
building from either entry to the conference room.
Our April meeting is at 7pm on April 14. See you all there…and don’t forget to
bring your item to Leslie for KAWS!! See more information
below about this and other KAWS news!! Note that all
displays going to KAWS need to have a card with your name, fiber content and
the technique used attached to them.
Did you pick up your 2010 Directory at the last meeting?
If not, contact Lolly Buxton at
itsewe@everestkc.net. If you know of additions or corrections to it,
please let Lolly know those too.
Recent updates to the directory were emailed to everyone around mid-March. If
you have any questions, please contact Lolly at the above email.
Inclement Weather Policy
Oh, the weather outside is frightful…and if other organizations (schools,
etc.) have cancelled events due to ice, snow, cold temperatures, tornado
activity, etc…so have we. We’ll try to post cancelled meetings and other Guild
events on our website as soon as we know they’ll be cancelled.
The Weaver’s Guild meets the second Thursday of each month at 10am at the
Waldo Library ( 201 E. 75th Street in Kansas City , Missouri ). Check their
website (www.kcweaversguild.org)
for this month’s meeting topic. If you’re in the Fiber Guild, you’re welcome
to attend Weaver’s Guild meetings!! Be sure to check out their website for
news you don’t find in our newsletter…but might interest you!
The Weaver’s Guild welcomes its newest, youngest member:
Galena Rose Berry, born March 12 at 2:17pm; weighed 8 lbs, 6 oz and was 20.5
inches. Congratulations to new mom Becky Stevens, current Weaver’s Guild

Opportunities - Fiber Events
KAWS 2010
KAWS– the Kansas Alliance of Weavers and Spinners – will
hold its annual Conference in Emporia this year, on April 30 – May 2. The
theme is “May Mixer”. The keynote speaker has not yet been announced.
The overall theme at the exhibit will be “ Champagne and
Chocolate” and everyone is invited to participate in this. It is important to
stick with the theme and the parameters set for making items as follows:
All items must be made from at least 75% un-dyed fibers. This will give us a
variety of off-whites and tans that will resemble champagne in a range of
browns and blacks that will resemble chocolate. You must try something new
when creating these items.
The samples will be very small – use no more than ˝ ounce of fiber.
Batts or roving should fit into a martini glass; finished
objects should fit into a muffin tin.
Examples of finished items might be needle-felted
chocolate-dipped fruit, very small lace doilies that resemble cookies, small
bits of handmade lace to place around the edge of a martini glass to represent
salt, sugar or cocoa, etc.
Light colored skeins will be used to create a champagne
fountain; dark colored yarns will be used to represent chocolate martinis. The
remaining items will be treated as if they are bon-bons or chocolate candies,
and displayed on gold muffin papers on the table.
Each guild member is welcome to bring up to 3 items for
the table. Leslie McLaughlin will set up our display at KAWS. Bring each item
with a paper attached with a safety pin giving your name, a brief description
of the item, and what it was that you tried for the first time.
All items are due at the April Fiber or Weaver Guild’s meetings.
More information contact Leslie McLaughlin, Lolly Buxton, or see KAWS’ website
at:
Important KAWS Update: if you are not able to access the KAWS registration
information via their website, please
contact Leslie McLaughlin -
